Okay, first, the taco truck is not its real name. It’s called Tacos El Primo (The first taco? Or more likely The Best Taco) But the taco truck is a much more descriptive name. It is literally a teal truck, from which you buy tacos. There are apparently like 3 around town now, and its not hard to see why. The tacos are excellent. I had 3 steak tacos ($1 each) that came with excellent, although hot, salsa, and lime to squeeze on them. They were made with small corn tortillas and had lots of cilantro. Very yummy.
I went with Rachel who is helping me complete my 101 things. There was definitely “atmosphere.” There were two plastic outdoor tables, but at the time we arrived they were full of construction-type workers. One of whom had the windows rolled down in his truck and was playing a Hispanic radio station. It reminded me of a scene in that movie “Crazy/Beautiful,” at least I think that’s the movie. At any rate, for lack of better options Rachel and I sat on the curb to eat, which was fine because it was a lovely day in the valley today (and 86 degrees in October). And it was the first time all day I got warm, since I accidentally left my office window open last night and arrived to an icebox office this morning.
The downsides of the taco truck: you have to become immune to the idea of buying food out of a truck (and not think too hard about how they create the food in the truck). You have to be willing to sit on the curb. They don’t recycle (which is a shame since all their drinks come in recyclable containers) and they use styrofoam. However, none of these are deal-breakers for me. I’ll go again.
The tacos were delicioso!! Also, “el primo” means “the cousin.” Nothin’ like a little taco family love…
